Light & Atmosphere
Clouds and skies are the key to landscapes,
but successfully capturing the illusion of
transparent light, movement and
optical depth are the hallmarks of
advanced oil painting, yet how do you paint
transparent and luminous light?
Aimed at those who have a sound working
knowledge of oil paints, and some experience
of modifying them with mediums, Light &
Atmosphere is our signature course and will
give your work that elusive ‘how was that
done?’ quality. During the course you will learn.
The principles of optical mixing
How to create the illusion of light
Advanced use of mediums
How to create the illusion of depth
Processes for creating transparent light
How to paint translucent rain, fog etc
How to create the illusion of moving air
Based around the production of a 30x 40” oil
landscape, the course is a mixture of
demonstration and tutored ‘hands-on’ painting.
At the end of the course you will have
produced both a tonal oil sketch and a larger
oil painting to a method that you can use in
your own studio.
Lunches, materials for use on the day and
