The Norfolk Painting School
Oil Painting Courses. Gallery. Specialist Materials
reference sketches there is no need to

Aimed at those who wish to focus on studio
based painting this course shows you how to
use the principles of Composition, Tonal
Sketching and Colour Planning to develop
loose, evocative oil paintings directly from
photographic references. During the course we
will cover, amongst other things;

        Compositional planning for focus
        Tonal sketching for drama
        Colour planning for atmosphere
        The proper use of oil mediums
        Two basic approaches to oil painting
        Our  step by step approach to painting
        How to organise your studio

Based around the production of a 30x 40” oil
landscape, the course is a mixture of
demonstration and tutored ‘hands-on’ painting.

At the end of the course you will have
produced both a tonal oil sketch and a larger
oil painting to a method that you can use in
your own studio.
Studio painting is a great building block
towards ‘Light & Atmosphere’, and the ideal
partner to our ‘On Location’ course.
Lunches, materials for use on the day and
course notes are provided
inch plein air panels; you won't
get to work on this size on your
course, but I
will teach you how!
