The Norfolk Painting School
Oil Painting Courses. Gallery. Specialist Materials
Enjoy five days of structured painting tuition on
the North Norfolk coast . Based around the painting of
sea, skies and various weather conditions this five day course is a
mixture of studio and plein air painting, aimed at improving your
depiction of weather and landscape in oils. Starting from first
principles Martin Kinnear takes you through the process of
recording weather on location (using methods similar to Constable's
'skying' phase), and then shows you how to develop fuller studio
oils from these quick studies in the style of the Dutch and Italianate
masters. During the course we will cover:
- Foundation oil painting skills
- Traditional oil mediums for plein air and studio work
- Plein air weather painting
- Studio sky and marine painting
- Principles and practice of sky painting
- Principles and practice of sea painting
The course includes all materials you need in the studio, plus
lunches and refreshments.
This five day course is suitable for painters of all abilities, as the
small class sizes and longer duration allow it to reflect your current
ability. It is not essential that you have attended any of our courses
to take part, and this course counts as a foundation course for the
purpose of subsequently booking intermediate courses.
To make the courses as useful as possible, we insist on a maximum
of just eight students, with a studio assistant also on hand in most
courses we can ensure as much ‘at your easel’ tuition as possible.
extremely good for getting students to practice new skills while they are with us; this years focus on sea and sky is our most commonly requested course, and will make a huge difference to your painting of these themes.
